Virtual Race Festivities

On Christmas Eve, I ran not one, but two virtual races:

It was good to be back home in the tundra after sweating my coconuts off in Key West...
...ok sort of...not really.

I wore some of my favorite things, doing my best to channel the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Make that a strong Sugar Plum Fairy.
I love this base layer top from Athleta almost as much as life itself.

An equally purple jacket, and a certain little gumdrop, completed my ensemble.

I got out to strong wind and temps in the mid-20's.
My ornery ham made its presence known briefly between miles 1 and 2 and,
as expected, the going was slow. Sigh.
After just a tad more than 5k, Garmin said:

But my racing day was not over.
There was a 10k to complete as well so I soldiered on until Garmin said:

I carried on, picking it up a smidge until 10 miles were complete, average pace 9:15.

Overall a fun and festive outing.
Thanks to Robin, Stephanie, Ashley and Kiley for sponsoring these races!

How have you fit in your workouts over the holidays?

  3. I've had a complete fail in the workout dept- but that's what New Years is for, right? Great job getting out there!

  4. oh yea! I did mine too! It was a great challenge right in the middle of a busy break. Don't you think? Love that you made it 10 too! impressive!

  5. 10 miles in the mid-20s, hardcore. Mild temps in NC this winter have made me soft when it comes to cold-weather running. Need to cut that out once 2012 gets underway.

Thanks for the blog comment - I know what you mean about Lifetime pools being too shallow for aquajogging. I almost didn't join for that very reason since I was mid-recovery from a leg injury, but fortunately my calf/shin resolved itself (knock on much wood) and the swimming has been fun. Very, very hard ... but fun.

  6. Way to kill two birds with one stone! Didn't know that you were in the FitFluential network, I was accepted into it recently too! How exciting.

  7. I'm so impressed with your Christmas Eve mileage and virtual races! I've done pretty well over the holidays of getting in my runs, but because of traveling I haven't been to the gym to lift weights for two weeks.

  8. You look stylin'. And I hate wind, so good for you for enduring it. Nothing like a good hard run (or two in your case) to make Christmas Day feasting guilt-free.

  9. I've been a bit of a slacker, favoring my bed and some festive eats over most everything else. Great job on your runs!

  10. Nice job! Loving the purple too.

Luckily, I live four miles from my family, so travel was minimal for the holidays. I could pretty much run my normal schedule, if slightly modified.

  11. Fit in the runs? Much like a square peg in a round hole during the holidays!! But I'm nothing if not persistent - got them in with a lot of pounding!!!

  12. I have that EXACT top in that SAME color! I love it so much that I have worn it as my "dress" top with jeans and haven't worn it to run in yet. I should do that as it is very comfy. Looks great on you and good job getting 10 miles in!

  14. Ok, how did I miss that very cute purple top from Athleta???!!! Very nice! I am surprised you haven't had snow. We got a foot of snow the Thurs before Christmas and it is not melting (which it usually does when the sun comes out). It is hard work running through the snow! Blessings for 2012!

  15. Don't you love hitting 3 birds with one stone?

I'm so envious of that blue top! It's gorgeous.

  16. Great time and I love your top from Athleta, it is gorgeous! I got my virtual 5 and 10Ks in this week!

  17. You are adorable in purple and looking very fit and ready to race! Are you still coming to visit us and run?!

  18. A cranky foot has had me working out about every other day since my Thanksgiving Half-Marathon, which has worked out perfectly between work and getting ready for Christmas. I was able to keep my stamina and cardio going without further injury, or worse, feeling bloated and flabby.

I'm never out in such cold temps, so I admire your fortitude in completing your 10-miler!

  19. You look adorable in that outfit. Our temps are like yours in the mornings, but thankfully minus the wind, at least on the trails.

I haven't fit in many workouts this holiday. A trail run, a trail ride, and a trail run again tomorrow. I'm currently hiding from the scale.

  20. Nice run(s)!. Love the strong fairy pic. If we make poses like that around here after doing curls or P90X, it's usually followed by "someone bring me some ice for my guns" :-). What makes it more funny is that neither my wife or I (or my son or daughter) have anything close to qualifying as guns.

  21. Love the new gear, Sugar Plum. I may have to look into Athleta's cross-border shipping.

You're great with sticking to your runs and regime. Ten miles is pretty impressive.

  22. Great work. This week it seemed a little harder to get up and get going but I haven't missed any workouts yet. I even ran Christmas Day (which was supposed to be my strength training day but I did a swap and it's all good)

    Loving your workout colour!

  23. Great job getting out there. And you look fabulous in your purple Athleta attire! I've found it to be way easier to fit in runs this week because my husband has been home from work! :)

  24. Congrats on your virtual race!! I am loving that Athlete running top!! That is so cute!

  25. Cute tops!

I've been walking and doing my pt exercises for my knee. I will officially start my "couch to 5k" after the new year - yay:)

  26. You're so cute Marcia! Everytime I come visit your blog I get nostalgic for New York. I used to go to Central Park very often from the Bronx. Happy Holidays to you too! A big hug!

  27. Wow, I love your gear. Purple, of course, is one of my favorite colors! You look fabulous!

    Congrats on the run.

  28. I got in the Home for the Holidays 10k but that is about it! Great run, way to push out those extra miles!

  29. Love, Love, love the outfit. I always feel like such a frump running in the winter since most of my stuff doesn't coordinate.

  30. Those are all super cute tops. I probably look like a dude in my random running clothes that are baggy. I should put effort into it - haha. Congrats on the two virtual races. Nice motivator to get out over the holiday.
