Three Things Thursday

1. I overslept until 6:30 today, which is pretty rare for this early bird, no-alarm girl. I'm thinking it's residual fatigue from the destination race weekend. I had this really weird, yet beautiful dream where I was sitting at a table at an outdoor cafe with my dad. There were stunning castles in misty mountains all around us. This worries me because my dad is having knee-replacement surgery in a few days and he's not in the greatest shape (obese, Type II diabetes) to withstand surgery. Hoping that was not a premonition of some sort.

2. I finally got a new blender after breaking the old one. It was hard to be recovery shakeless for any length of time. Even though making shakes and pureeing soup is pretty much all I ever use a blender for, I felt like I should do some research on the best one to get, yet I never got around to that. There is such a huge price range I wonder what a $100 blender does that a $25 one does not. Finally I pulled the trigger and settled on a cheap but so far more than adequate Oster.
What kind of blender do you have?

3. My bike is still not on the trainer. Our winter has been so mild I'm still riding outside. It was 35 here this morning so how could I not resist taking a spin? I'm beginning to wonder if I'll use the trainer at all this season. Not complaining!

  1. Whenever it gets around 40 here the bike goes outside. I'm so happy too. Nothing like taking a spin out doors in Jan! Feels so great doesn't it!?

I have an Oster. I'm hard on kitchen appliances, as are my kids so I usually go middle of the road. I would love for the entire place to be Williams Sonoma :)

  2. I'm such a cold chicken! I don't ride my bike outside during the winter AT ALL!!!!!!!

  3. We bought the expensive Breville Blender that has a cylindrical bottom and supposedly high end way of blending. Umm, I have been disappointed. Because of the way the other half washes it, it leaks, and has a funky smell.

  4. I have a Cuisinart and it works great but I can tell that it is ready to get going...sometimes it makes weird noises! It is 6 years old...how long do they last! It has been really mild here too! Isn't it great!?

  5. If I could have stayed in bed today I would have. I am very tired and I can't use a 1/2 marathon race as an excuse!

  6. I have done three shorty recovery runs each day since Sunday's Carlsbad HM. I am ready for a workout today. Some hills and I have a date today.

You know I used to use a blender for protien shakes each morning back in the body building days in my 20's/early 30's. I don't think I have used one in a decade now or more? I don't think we even have one burried anywhere in the house? Hmm ... Oester is okay then? Hmm ... might need to make a trip to Target today. :)

  7. I have a black and decker blender and the base has a square peg and the cup part has a star. It tends to lose it's alignment and cause a bunch of issues. Mainly me swearing and throwing it :P and that's great that you're still not using the trainer! enjoy the weather while we've got it :D

  8. We have a decent blender that we got as a wedding present. Couldn't tell you what kind. I use it pretty rarely. Might be needing recovery shakes as my runs get longer again, though. 30's is cold for me to take out my road bike, but just fine for my mountain bike. You're tougher than I am. :)

I hope your dad's surgery goes well!

  9. 1. First and foremost, my prayers are with you and your Dad!
    2. I've got a VitaMix and it's worth EVERY PENNY!
    3. Now that I'm in Seattle, it's good to know 35 degrees is a good thing! ;) I am loving your giveaway and hope I win -- I need me some outside gear! Everything I have is "warm gear" for Hawai'i!!

  10. For what we use one for, a cheap blender is the best choice. I've purchased the really expensive ones ($100+), and they don't blend that much better than the $25 ones...and don't last 4 times longer either.

Biking outside in 35 degree weather...that is hard core for this Dallas resident. I'm thinking that the line is somewhere closer to 50. :-)

  11. We have a Cuisinart blender...works pretty well. I've found the prefect ratio of Shakeology powder, ice and milk/water for my breakfasts! Our weather has been super mild too, so it's been a breeze to be outside!
I'm going to have to check out your giveaway! I'm always looking for great running/workout pants! Thanks!

  12. I have a KitchenAid blender. I'm not sure how much it cost ... it was a Christmas gift from my husband. Adding insult to injury, it was our first Christmas as a married couple (and only 12 days after we were married). It does work well but I always opt for middle of the road appliances because I'm not doing anything fancy.

  13. I'm impressed that you are still riding outside! I probably could have on several days, but I'm trying to get used to my new bike and there's no way I'm taking her outside in this!! :)

Hope all goes well for your dad's surgery.

  14. Oh gosh, I hope your dad's surgery goes off without a hitch! I have been super tired, too, upon my return home. And eating the entire house!!

My $100 blender's motor went out a few months ago and you know how money strapped I am right now so I bought the $14 blender on sale at Target. I swear to God, it does a MUCH better job than that stupid pricier one I had! I think you'll be just fine with the cheaper one.

  15. Our blender is a kitchenaid, but it was a wedding gift. I don't buy my own kitchen appliances. I ask for them for Christmas!

Hope everything goes well with your dad!

  16. I will keep your Dad in my prayers, hope his surgery goes well, I have seen hundreds of those done. Pretty cool.

I have no idea what kind of blender I have and I am at work so I can't go look :)

  17. I'm so glad we have had plenty of sunny days this winter to get my bike out! I'd find it hard to live in a cold climate. Hope all goes well with your Dad's surgery.

  18. I have an Oster blender and it is awesome. I am loving the mild winter thus far. I wore shorts on my run for the 2nd time this week. This time last year, I was on a stretch of 6 weeks on a treadmill. I'll take it!

  19. I have a super cheap $10 blender from big lots that I bought in college. It still works just fine - obviously a wise investment on my part! :)

Good luck to your dad with his surgery!

  20. Nice.....My wife and I get a blender 3 years ago, I think it's like a $10 oster but still kicks butt. Talk about weird dreams. and mild winter, I hate cool weather period. lol. Take care.

  21. I have a Waring blender that is definitely starting to show its age - I think it was kind of pricing for how well it blends.

I'm loving this mild winter - it was 40 here today, 55 on Tuesday! Gotta love it!

Wishing your dad good luck with his surgery.

  22. I have no idea what kind of blender I have! It was left in my apartment when I moved in back in 1993. I was right out of college, so I just gave it an extra good scrubbing and kept it! I think it's at least 30 years old and it is awesome!!

  23. I just bought a blender last week. I previously had a normal Hamilton Beach or something along those lines (an inexpensive one). The one I got was from GNC on sale, one of those one shake at a time kind of blenders - haven't even tried it yet. Hope it works!

  24. I have a pretty cheap blender. I'm not even sure what brand it is. I don't really like shakes or smoothies, so I use it about twice a year to puree soup.

  25. I use the very "whatever" unglamorous blender I received for my wedding 15 years ago. Seems to mix kale and blueberries as well as any other.

I love the mild morning runs, but I would love some snow for some family sledding.

  27. I still have the "whatever" blender I got at my wedding 10 years ago. I cannot remember the last time I actually used it. :/

  28. I hope all goes well for your Dad's surgery and recovery. It's a stressful time for you all so I'll be thinking about you.

  29. Prayers for your dad! and we have one of those stupid expensive blenders that handsome "just had to have" when we got married
(9 years ago) it is no "great shakes" ha the $35 one would have done just fine :) and no I'm not bitter!

  30. I have a generic blender that does the job just fine :)

Thinking about your Dad...as a girl who comes from a family who's famous for eerie dream premonitions, I won't lie when I say this scared me a little bit...

    ReplyDelete
  31. i researched and researched blenders and bought an oster that ranked 2 on the blender list! So far i have had it for 6 years and its still chugging along nicely!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I LOVE this "winter", today it was mid 60s!!

  33. You're dad will do just fine! My mom had her knee replaced last year and I was a nervous wreck! Got a crazy tough Kitchen Aid, pretty sure I could make a smoothie out of gravel with it!

  34. Prayers for your dad, think positive and the things will go well, I am sure.
I am preparing a room in my house all for me where I am thinking to put also a trainer considered that I don't ride anymore a bike on the road.
    Have a good week end.
