Vega Sport Review

I've had this awesome pack of goodies from Vega Sport for some time now and have been more than eager to share my thoughts with you.
First, how cooler-than-cool is this sample pack?
I popped the box top to discover a veritable treasure trove of plant-based sports nutrition.
Vega Sport products are divided up into categories: Prepare, Sustain and Recover.

Pre-Workout Energizer
This contains a whole mess of funkadelic, natural ingredients like coconut seed oil, yerba mate, green tea and ginseng. Whoa kids this stuff got me revved up! In a good way. It was a little dicey to mix (probably should have shook it), but once I got it going it was fine. I enjoyed the lemon-lime flavor too.

Endurance Gels
They went down easily and had a more natural flavor than others I've tried. I swear I could almost taste pulp in the orange zest one. My only gripe about the gels is the packaging is on the large side, making it a pain to fit in my fuel belt.

Here's a size comparison with other brands.

Electrolyte Hydrator
This is a zero-calorie electrolyte powder you pop into your water bottle and enjoy on the run...or ride. The pom-berry flavor was light and refreshing.

Endurance Bar
These are Larabar-esque in flavor and texture. The Acai Berry bar contains dates, dried apples, whole grain brown rice protein, pumpkin seed butter and a bunch of other natural ingredients. Probably my least favorite item in the assortment, but still decently good.

Performance Protein
I whipped this into my recovery shake after a 13 miler. It was tasty, with a slightly different consistency than I'm accustomed to. I almost sensed a coconuttiness. Definitely liked. A lot. It's got all the components I look for in a protein powder: 25g plant-based protein, Branched-Chain Amino Acids, L-Glutamine, and Digestive Enzymes. Honestly, I swear by these. I feel like they help me recover faster with less muscle soreness.

Recovery Accelerator
This is designed to restore energy, reduce inflammation and boost immunity. I drank it immediately after a very hard workout. I mixed the apple-berry powder with 12 oz. of cold water. For me the flavor was a tad strong and I would have liked to dilute it further. But, the next day my muscle soreness was minimal at best!

Protein Bar
I saved my favorite for last. Kids I adore these. I loved the Chocolate Savi-Seed flavor but when I bit into the Chocolate Coconut bar I swear I heard angels sing. It is THAT delicious. Plus what could be bad about 15 grams of protein after a taxing effort? A must-have for sure.

While I'm not vegan or even vegetarian, overall I highly enjoyed these products from Vega Sport. Be sure to enter their sweepstakes going on now. Tons of great prizes!

Note: I received products from Vega Sport free of charge, however my opinions are my own.

What products, foods or rituals do you swear by for optimal recovery?

  10. Great review...I did the same review but have been using this for awhile. Love it.
I have the same beef with the gels. Not sure what I am going to do when I have to start carrying around 5+ for my marathon runs...

  14. For pre work out or runs, I just drink coffee. In the middle I have water or Powerade. For recovery, I drink Chocolate milk. lol. But sometimes, I will have other stuff like for long runs, I will have hammer whatever the stuff they call for pre, and gels. Thanks for sharing the review.
